19 May Minutes
·        Call meeting to order
o   Introductions

·        Treasure report – Mandy – Some field trip expenses, Cran-Hill transportation expenses, Scholastic Dollar, and assemblies.  $21, 500 in checking.
·        Teacher report –  No teacher present
·        Principal report – Ms. Kent – Mstep will start next week, and the last round of assessments will be starting soon as well.  Ms. Kent has been at some conferences lately, and saw some buildings and spaces that may be similar to what the remodel will be.  Ferris is trying to partner with Artworks to do start an art program that ties into literacy, this will be a third grade intiative.  May be some fences going up and breaking ground sometime in the next few weeks. Garden boxes will have to be moved, so we are trying to find a good place for them.  3rd grade is going to the courthouse next Friday. Assembly went really well.
·        Old Business:
o   Not much here
·        New Business:
o   Box tops/Shop-A-Roo – We received a check for just over $250.  Another round of boxtops will be going in soon.
o   Mrs. Scheible suggestions – Will be rolling up with her class through 4th grade.  Is looking for around $480 in supplies.  If we give $500 for each teacher, they can use that money for classroom updates.  We are having a hard time keeping track of teacher requests, if they can fill out a form for requests going forward.  We will hold $500 for each teacher, and let them know to let us know what they would like to purchase when they are ready to purchase. 13 rooms, plus 2 special education, 1 music, 1 K special and 1 technology. Maybe $250 for 2 Title 1 teachers as well?  Already given to P.E.
o   Nurses week is next week as well – maybe a gift for Nurse Mary.
o   Officer elections – June meeting will be officer elections.
o   What else?
  •  The school needs a new microwave, the handle has broken on the one in the kitchen.
  •  Rolling coolers for field trips. Table this until next year, when we have more storage space.
  •  Walk-A-Thon – thoughts for next year.  Maybe a change up. A Read-A-Thon?? Maybe don’t mess with what works.  Dance-off? Lip-sync/Stage/karaoke?
  • Playground additions will be in the near future, swings may be started to pulled out this month.
  •  Electronic sign for the front of the building, start around $20,000-$25,000.  May ask around at some local places. There may be some cheaper online options as well. Let’s do some comparisons and shopping around to see if there are other options.
  •  Field trips – We need to have the teachers fill out a form for field trips requests.  3rd grade is having their field trip to Whitecaps coming up this month.
  •  Health and Fitness Day – May 30

The pedometers competition started today for 3rd and 4th.  Thanks for the book fair books as well.
  • Principal academic report – Miss Kent – Calling all dads was a great hit!  We had a LOT of dads. Reading and writing night went well. The kids LOVED CranHill, and so did the teachers.  The weather was great for that day too!! Thanks for that. We still don’t have a set end date. Next week, we may have a better answer.  Adding time to the school day is an option, possible forgiveness of snow days, and we may be making up all missed days. We will let everyone know when we know.  PTO assembly is coming up on the 16th at 1:30.  There will be some teacher movement next year.  We will have 2 young Ks at Eastwood next year.

    • We need to spend some money… We would like to do some playground additions.  Need to replace the zip line, keep in mind that zip line is on K/1 side, so would be nice to have at their height. We will be removing one set of swings for the remodel.  Once we find out building footprint, we would like to put back in more swings. We definitely want to move forward on this, but let’s wait until next year to actually move on anything.
    • Officer elections at next meeting – we have 4 positions, treasurer, secretary, vice-president, president, if you are interested, think about it and be ready for next meeting.

  • Dates for:
    • Health & Fitness – Thursday, May 30 with rain backup being Friday May 31. Try to get a variety of blow-ups, not just slides. Will try to schedule with Jaks, but may go another route if we have trouble again.

  • Call meeting to order
    • Intros
  • Approval of April minutes - Cooley approves
  • Treasure report - Mandy - Not a lot, one field trip for 4th grade.  There are a few expenses for teacher appreciation, and some shirts for K.
  • Teacher report - Mrs. Bender - Everyone is doing wonderful - teachers appreciate all the field trip support.  First grade is scheduling the zoo field trip for May 30th. First grade will do the playscape and would like to try Toppings for $2 per student this year as well.  First grade will do the zoo trip in the Fall possibly next year.
  • Principal academics report - Ms. Kent - The third and fourth grade are in MSTEP testing right now.  The test has been readjusted so it is down to 3 or 3.5 hrs. There is Math and ELA on the test. The K readiness assessment will happen in the first 30 days of school, looks like it will be a K-2 initiative.  We will compare our fall scores to our spring scores, and then write a school improvement plan. We may ask for some parent input here as well. Family picnic flyers should be home or going home soon.
  • Old Business:
  • New Business:
    • Box tops/Shoparoo - We received a check for just over $200.  Submitted $298.10 today that will arrive next fall.
    • Field Trips - ongoing
    • K shirts - would like another set of red shirts - tabled
    • Gym mats - The new price for new gym mats will be around $2130.  This is more than we had initially anticipated, but these mats are a higher quality that shouldn’t slide on the floor. These will replace the current mats that are past their life. Approved.
    • Review of important dates:
      • Health & Fitness Day - May 25 - new Jaks ownership - We have the same inflatables reserved.
      • Family Picnic - May 18 (early release)
      • Last day of school - TBA
      • Fourth grade clap out - June 4 - Emily is doing shirts - Ms. Kent has bracelets left over from last year.  Shirts will be front & back, they are coming from the ISD this year.
      • Super Teacher Worksheets - All access for the building - $300
    • Teacher Appreciation - See google drive
    • Walk-A-Thon
      • Next meeting - We should meet in June.  We talked about a water theme.
      • Entertain the idea of having it during school??  Could we make it an event where everyone (Elem./ MS/ HS) comes together.  Maybe bus everyone to the high school? We could be outside at the HS, but weather is an issue.  Also, maybe at the MS when they are doing the color run?? The safety of keeping everyone together may be a challenge.  Maybe a Friday night? Maybe on an early release day?
      • Kick off will be Sept. 7 - Clean water theme - event will be Oct. 6 (maybe Oct 5?) - donations will close Oct. 12.
      • All corporate money will stay at the elementary level, even with the coordination with the MS.  (MS is NOT gonna be a “one ask” because of the way fundraising is done at MS level)
    • Guest speaker - Beth Sanford - 5 wk. Kids summer program - fitness class.  Tuesday & Thursday - nutrition, exercise, and self esteem. Is trying to bring “Let Me Run” running program for boys to Big Rapids in the fall, to compliment girls on the run.  Program is 4th grade and up. Maybe more impactful if housed out of the MS and bus the fourth graders to MS for practice, since buses run there anyway.
    • Anything else? - Bulldog cinema - possible for renting out or maybe Walk-A-Thon incentive
    • Defeat the label - Riverview kids have been reading some bullying facts this week, will be watching some videos and participating this Friday at noon.  This is an international anti-bullying event.

  • New Business:
  • Guest Trisha with FSU
  • Box Tops/Shoparoo - We got a check for over $700.  That is our total for the year so far.  Katie is going to put up a bulletin board. Have a drawing with $10 book fair gift card.  Mrs. Garner’s class won last month.
  • Reading month - Do the teachers need anything from us?  Last year, we gave some Scholastics stuff, do they want that again.  Yes. Book fair will be March 12-16, with family night being March 14.  We can do Sidekicks again - the popsicle cup treats.
  • Assembly - What is the reading month theme??  Outer Space theme. We can have the reading/writing committee look at it and pick!
  • Health & Fitness Day - May 25
  • Family Picnic - May 18 (early release day)
  • Spring concert K/1 - April 30
  • Last Day of School - June 6
  • Fourth Grade Clap Out - June 4
  • Field Trips - Haven’t heard much about it yet.  It is on the K Agenda for their meeting tomorrow.  K will go to the Children’s Museum.  4th will go to the Public Museum.  3rd will go to Cran Hill, 1st grade goes to the zoo, and 2nd goes to the Nature Center.
  • Teacher Appreciation - “Best teachers in the World” - travelers.  Just stick to little things on a daily basis and gift cards to teachers pay teachers/amazon.  Let’s do one big gift card, and then just little things.  We have around $2000 budgeted.  Last year we did Staff Day, the week before, do this again?  So, $100 teacher pay teacher, $50 Amazon, sweets day, popcorn/pop, Erich Daum lunch.  Posters with funny faces.
  • Get together - January birthday PTO celebration - ADULTS ONLY- game night at Emily’s house - Feb. 10 @ 6pm - bring a dish to past
  • Walk-A-Thon 2018 - Oct. 6, 9am-2pm - Water theme spin off.  Daily calendar month before.
  • We need to renew our website as well.
  • Where are we spending our money
  • Possibilities - new laminator (or have it repaired), water fountain with bottle filler, still saving for pavilion & outdoor water fountain (waiting on bond before moving forward), die cut press, basketball hoops, maybe some bigger piece items for teachers, teachers pay teachers!! Another color printer?  Amazon gift cards.  Deater will see if the specials and others use teachers pay teachers.
  • Anything else?

Call meeting to order

  • Approval of November minutes - Zach approves
  • Treasure report -  Some walk-a-thon end assembly expenses, holiday shop, etc.
  • Teacher report - Mrs. Scheible - Thanks for all the fun incentives!!  BWW lunch was great, the kids were really excited about it!  There isn’t much else to report, everyone is looking forward to break coming up.
  • Principal report - Ms. Kent - academics report - We have the harmonica performers coming on the 19th.  The Kindergarteners have an “in”formance, where they will sing a few Christmas songs.  Maybe starting at 9am.  Parents will receive an invite, going out soon.
  • Old Business:
    • Walk-A-Thon - still wrapping up!!
  • New Business:
    • Box tops/Shoparoo - Katie has collected box tops, but hasn’t counted them up yet.
    • Holiday Shop
      • Picking stuff up Sunday, Dec. 10 if anyone can help, set up this day too.  We will have to purchase some things in the store that day as well.  We do have some extra things left over from years past as well.  Meet at Dollar Tree at 2pm.
      • Shop runs Mon., Tues., Wed. morning.
      • We need to order tables, and check that we will have high school helpers as well.  We usually buy the high schoolers lunch, too.
      • Sign up sheet for teachers, sheet to go home to parents with list.
    • What else?
    • We usually give a $100 scholastic gift card for the teachers as a Christmas gift.  Approved.
    • The box top/athletics competition idea is a no go for the time being.
    • Angie - box tops idea - have residence halls compete for collecting boxtops for us, honor students could use as volunteer hours.  Have each hall adopt a classroom, and have classrooms write to the halls.
      • Have we ever let parents know how much box tops earn us?  Maybe if we sent something home that shows how valuable they are, we would get better participation.
    • There is an education association that may be someone we could contact if we ever need volunteers.
