    • Field Trips went well and everyone is very thankful for them.  Teachers loved teacher appreciation as well.  Some suggestions for next year - more communication for chaperones - ALL chaperones should be paid for by PTO, can they buy a sack lunch (maybe PTO can pay), make sure they know NOT to buy anything extra for kids (including extra food treats, gifts, additional features of the field trip that is not included for all kids).

October 2016 Meeting Minutes

10/6/2016

Call meeting to order
  • Introductions
  • The board
  • Approval of September minutes
Treasure report
  • Mandy - copies of the newest report are being passed around, there are Walk-A-Thon expenses and also beginning of the year teacher gifts
Teacher report
  • Mrs. Garner - Spelling city is something that the 1-4 teachers would like to have.  The cost is $25 for 25 students and a little additional expense for each added student.  Some teachers have already purchased this, but it is something that the kids can use at home as well.  There may be a group/whole school rate.  Maybe we can reimburse the teachers now and get the school rate next year.  No one opposes covering this for the teachers.  Deater will find out who has already purchased and report back to Emily.
  • The teachers now have to put their standards on their lesson plans, this is a new state requirement that requires a lot of extra time for the teachers.  Planbook.edu.com is a $25 annual subscription is something that can assist the teachers in making these plans.  It will take care of some of the legwork for the teachers.  This will have to be renewed every year.  No one opposes.
  • Nikki Jorgensen had mentioned to Ms. Cole that she would be interested in coming in to do art with the students.  Would the PTO be interested in paying for some of the expense of art supplies.  Ms. Kent will have to be consulted about this before we move forward.  Deater will talk to Ms. Kent.
  • 4th Graders - We pay for a newspaper subscription for the 4th graders so that they can read it and use it in their curriculum.  Do we want to do this again?  Yes. No opposition.
Principal report
  • Ms. Kent - Academics report (None this month)
Old Business:
  • First assembly and field trip were a success
  • Homecoming - Huge success!! Thanks to all the members who helped out!!
  • Vote to adopt the bylaws as written
New Business;
  • Box tops: Maggie - Have collected about 1500.  They need to be mailed in by Nov. 1.  There is an app for Boxtops as well.  You can scan receipts and it will tell you exactly which items qualified.  We did set new, lowered goals this year for each classrooom.  Feltman may need a new bucket.  How about a traveling trophy instead of having a monthly goal?  The goal for each student is 90 boxtops per year.

  • Labels: Becky - no changes
  • Shoparoo: Katie - All you have to do is scan receipts.  The app is free.  Plan to do a bulletin board with info on this and boxtops after Walk-A-Thon is over.  Remember that we bring in money with these things, but we are not using these are fundraisers.
  • Book Fair: Amber - Book fair is the last week of October.  We have a pirate theme.  We will have an activity of some sort for the kids to do.  There will be no ice cream.  We are open during the day as well as the Wednesday night event.  Amber will pass around a sign up sheet, if you can help during the week, talk to Amber about running the cash register.  This is NOT a fund raiser.  We get scholastic dollars for this which we give all back to the teachers and students in book and classroom needs.  Can we make everyone aware of the wishlists for teachers too?? Maybe a Facebook post or a message in the lounge to remind teachers to fill out their wish lists.
Walk-A-Thon!!! OCTOBER 8
  • We raised over $47,000 in 2015 and over $26,000 in 2014.  Last year at the day of the event we were at $16,000.
  • ONE ASK!!  We are almost to $21,000 currently.
  • Positivity is the name of the game!!  Bringing the Energy Bus!!
  • Angels of Action - we are working together.  They will have a booth at the event and anyone who brings a donation will be entered for a BWW raffle basket.
  • Closing Oct. 28th - It will be around 2 or 2:30 because it will be messy!!
  • Incentives committee is ordering on the 10th.
  • Fruit kabob station will now be just apples and bananas.
  • Sign up sheet is going around, please sign up to help!!
  • Dr. Garlic has the toothbrushes and toothpaste - We can have a sign for the business and a table to pass out the goodies.
  • We have booths for Spectrum, Chemical, Dr. Garlic, and Angels of Action
Parent teacher conferences
  • Meals for the teachers - Mr. Scheible - October 18th and 20th by appointment.
  • Holiday Shop:
  • Abby is heading this up already.  Please get in touch with her if you want to be on this committee.
  • Last year, we did everything is $1.  The committee needs to decide what we have in the shop.  We were short on supplies last year.  We also need to have a cap on the amount each student brings in.  We will do a $10 cap.  Abby has been checking into dollar store purchases already.  We also need to order the bags for wrapping. Emily still has some stuff from last year as well.  Contact Abby is you want to help.  Erin and ??? will help.  We usually have high schoolers that come help with this as well.  We do also have some volunteers we can tap into at Ferris as well.
Other Items:

  • For reimbursement - there is a form on the website to submit receipts.
  • We didn’t renew our movie license.  Are we interested in doing a parents night out where parents can drop off kids at the school so the parents have some free time?  There may be Ferris students that we could ask about volunteering.  If we know far enough in advance, the honor students at Ferris are usually able to volunteer.  Is this a liability issue?
  • Angie Maury - She has started a 4H club with a focus on crafts and science experiments.  Meetings will be the second Tuesday of every month from 4-6.  For ages 5-19.
  • Can we do a Tshirt sale similar to what the high school did with the 2 for deal.  We did Tshirt sales last year and we ended up just being the middle man.  We are going to make Tshirt sales available, but we are going to send people into the Tshirt shop.   They are going to make an order form for us that will be available for parents to order right at his store.

September 2016 Meeting Minutes

9/8/2016

  • Call meeting to order
  • Introductions
  • The board - Emily, Mandy, Amber, Stephanie
  • Our purpose/mission, How we operate - we fund the fun!!  We try to be positive, bring the energy, get things done.
Approval of June Minutes - Jenn Deater
  • The google drive is open to everybody - this is where you can find the minutes for our monthly meetings.  Log onto: RiverviewPTO509@gmail.com Password: riverviewrocks509.  Everything is on there!!  Our website will also lead you there-www.riverviewrocks.org.
Treasure report
  • We had a breach in our bank account at the end of last year.  We will pass around the bank account printout, but we will have a clearer account next time.  We have just over $11,500.
Teacher report
  • Mrs. Maat - Ms. Stickler has some Smartboard requests.  She has a $175 of smartboard things.  Third grade will be able to use this in years following.  Approved. There are 3 or more teacher who also have Mobimax requests.  Mobimax is just a tool that the teachers can use in the classroom that the kids can use at home, and it meets them at their level. It would be $600-$800.  Mrs. Scheible has the request for the Anderson and Girls apple orchard field trips for K.  We have basically 2.5 K classes this year, so we will need two buses this year, so cost will be a little more expensive than last year.  Also, the bus expenses has gone up this year as well.  We want to try to fund field trips without having to ask parents to contribute additional money.
Principal report
  • Ms. Kent - The school is booming!!  We love our kids, we try to work hard for our kids.  They are going through a battery of assessments the first weeks of school to get baselines on them.  We have 30-40 more kids in the building than last year, so it is tight.  We are really shooting big for the walk-a-thon.
Old Business:
  • Health and fitness will not be rescheduled
  • Cartridges - Cooley was not here, will bring up during October meeting
New Business:
  • Food Allergy/Safe snack list- We have some parents who are available to let us know more about the food allergies in our school.  Q&A with food allergy experts.
    • There is a hotline available to those who have questions!
    • Italian Ice, Lemonade, and popcorn are items most kids can participate with.  Try to have events without food if possible.
    • Allergies are a legal issue as well as a physical issue.
    • Restriction of specific allergens for the classrooms is a top recommendation
    • How can we be inclusive for those with allergies?  Consider non food items for parties, open communication with teachers and school.
  • Box tops - Jenn Deater/Amber - We raise thousands of Scholastic dollars a year with this and book fair.  We don’t consider these as fund raisers as this money just goes right back into the school and teachers.  Maggie Ramsey has volunteered to take this over.  We do also have honor students that help us process the boxtops too. Boxtops must be turned in before the expiration date.
  • Labels - Becky - this is still phasing out, if you have these you can still turn them in.
  • Book Fair - Amber- The packets come home through the week.  We have a great event twice a year.  We have traditionally have an ice cream night, which we will have to revise this due to allergies.  Oct. 24-28 will be our first book fair.  Sign ups will be at the next meeting.  Our evening event will be Wed. Oct. 26.
  • Walk-A-Thon - Oct. 8
    • The planning has started.  To get involved just ask and we can put you on  a subcommittee to help out.
    • First letter home already went out.
    • Kick off assembly is Monday the 12th at 8:30
    • PTO members are the eyes and ears of this event!!  We need to know if anyone has questions, confusion, or issues with anything!!
    • This is a ONE ASK event!!  We only ask our parents and community to donate to us ONE time a year!
    • This is the third annual event for us.  It has REALLY worked for us.  We know this isn’t going to please everyone, but we do our best to make the most of our money.
    • We spent 80%+ of our money that we made last year.  We are trying to save toward a shade/pavilion for the playground.  We keep almost all of the money we raise!  This works because we get the teachers, parents, and kids excited about it.  We have bought lots of playground equipment, assemblies, field trips, etc. IT was brought up that we use the money to buy beginning of the year supplies for the teachers.  This was voted against as we are trying to bring fun to the school with playground, field trips, assemblies, etc and the money can be spent on those.  Other parents like bringing that stuff in.
    • Our theme this year is positivity/Energy bus.
    • We want to know the feedback - the good and the bad.  We need to know what everyone thinks so that we can fix what we can and just get better and better.
  • Homecoming - Oct. 1
    • Sign up to help with this committee!  Who wants to be in charge of this committee??  They will need to coordinate the float.  There will be a theme.  Megan Knopf will take charge. Rachel and Jody Lee will help.
    • Meet with Renee
    • More info coming
    • Spirit week will be September 26-October 1
  • Parent teacher conferences
    • We need someone to take the lead on this! We provide the melas for the teachers.
    • Nick Scheible will coordinate.
  • Bylaws
    • Mandy - We are still working on developing a budget and bylaws.  The google drive will have a copy of the bylaws.  We are doing our best to try to formulate this.  If you have any amendments or thoughts, let us know!  We will most likely vote this in next meeting.

Fourth grade will be seeing the little red school house out at School Section Lake.  Third grade will be going to Cran Hill soon as well.  We will not be allowed to bring pizza.  It will be weather dependent. Mrs. Krebs would like class shirts for her class when they go to field trips etc.  25 Lime Green shirts all adult small size. Is anyone getting close to the goals?  Maat is the closest at 65%.  Our lowest at Cole at 20%.  Most classes are in the 20s.  Maybe put the numbers on Facebook to hopefully spur on some more box tops coming in.  Check in with the teachers May 20, before the next PTO meeting to see who  has reached their goals and decide party days on a case by case basis.
  • Labels - Becky -
  • Playground - Mandy - Equipment will go in this weekend.  Becky’s husband is in charge of the construction end of it.  There will be 4 individual, spinning, bouncy chairs.  There is a specific fall zone on these, but everything should be in and ready to go by Monday!  The husbands/dads will meet at 6pm Friday.  Saturday at 8am and Sunday at 9am.
  • BOGO Book Fair-This is a full blown book fair night.  Everything is BOGO of equal or lesser value.  One night only!!  From 5:30-7:30 May 18.  We cannot use scholastic dollars at this book fair.  If we hit $2200, they will give us a 10% bonus on our last two book fairs, which should make us around $1000.  We will be serving ice cream, Heather is in charge of ice cream. We have tables reserved, let them know that we would like a custodian here as well.
  • Health & Fitness day-Jaks bounce houses is all set
  • 4th grade clap out-We need a new order form for the shirts.  Janae will take this.  Emily will discuss further with Ms. Kent and Janae. Cookies have been ordered.
  • Mr. Shewan- Stefanya? - They have some jokes collected, we plan to put hand prints on the banner, and get some gift cards. Maybe a Cabellas, or Barnes & Nobles, Blue Cow for ideas.  Maybe $100 total. Let’s do two $50 gift cards. The Elliots are also making a bench.  Emily will pick this up.
  • Family picnic - May 20
  • Working on developing a budget - still in the process
  • Font cartridges - we have been asked to buy these for the cricut.  They are around $20 per cartridge, but can be more.  We had one and it has been lost.  Cooley is going to look into this.

4/14/2016

  • Call meeting to order
  • Approval of March minutes
  • Treasurer report - not too much going on here, besides $3000 for playground.  There are some field trip/bus expenditures here as well.
  • Teacher report - Mrs. Fox - Mrs. Scheible was wondering about K field trip May 4 - The grant came through for Mrs. Garner for the children’s museum K field trip, so they will just need buses covered.  It will be around $530.  Approved. Third grade would like to take a big field trip as well.  May 10 is agriculture day at Cran Hill Ranch.  The main expense would be buses and lunch.  Probably around 2 parent chaperones per class, will stick with pizza and etc. for lunch.  Mrs. Maat would like a field trip to the nature center on  June 2.   There is a $5 entry fee and busing.  Fourth grade is expected to do a robot field trip as well.  Let’s just agree to approve any field trip that comes our way!!  Testing is going on now.  Third grade will start Mstep testing on April 25, it will take about 3 days. Parents will get some notes home regarding the testing soon.  There is a make up time later on in May if anyone misses.  We are trying to give the kids some warning that this is coming, but not any pressure, plus some supportive notes from parents.  March is reading month was a huge success.  We are looking forward to the spaghetti throw at Ms. Kent which is the “reward” for reaching March reading goals.
  • Principal report - Ms. Kent - Academics report- K&1 are working on the early literacy tests with Mr. Posey.  Chromebooks are getting a lot of use.  Testing is coming up and there is a lot prep going on for that.  The dance for March reading wrap up was a big hit.  Calling all Dads was a super success too, there was a bigger turn out this year!!  It was pretty short and sweet but well received.
  • Old Business:
    • Girls on the run sponsor - Thanks to Mandy and Dave to reaching  out to Gary Trimarco!!
    • Book Fair - We sold almost $4900 worth of books!!  The best one ever...we spent $2000 on books for the kids and teachers, we have over $2000 left in scholastic dollars.  They offered us a BOGO free book fair on May 18 5:30-7:30.  It will be a one night event, we won’t make money off of this.  We also talked about offering info on Khan academy and Grasp at the event.  Grasp forms already needed to be turned in.  If we sell $2200, we would make a little money.  We will serve some ice cream that night as well.  Heather will take care of the ice cream.    Thanks to Heather and Megan for organizing the nachos and everyone who helped serve.
    • Assemblies - We had the science assembly and the reading assembly.  The reading assembly was a bust.  It was 45-60 minutes and the guy just couldn’t keep the attention of the kids.  The science one was a big hit though.
    • Teacher conference - the food was a big hit!!

  • New Business:
    • Box tops- everything is going well.
    • Labels - no new news
    • Mr. Shewan- Emily will meet with Stefanya later to hash through this - What if we did Mr. Shewan from 8;30-9:00 on May 26, then everyone can go out to do health and fitness stuff afterwards.
    • Buddy Bench- thank you for the idea Leslie Green!  A buddy bench is a bench where kids can go if they don’t have anyone to play with. There is a bunch there already….let’s talk about this later!
    • Signs out front - We had an idea for a post that would we could put a vinyl sticker for the teachers name on the side.  Will the groundskeeping have a problem with this?  Renee will talk to Steve regarding it.
    • Family picnic -  We may move this to Friday, June 3. School will be extended until either June 6 or 7.
    • Health and Fitness day - May 26 - We want the three bounce houses like last year! Can we get the bounce house up and ready by 10:30.

    • Playground - The new equipment will be here next week.  Russ Curtis will help us out with installing so we will see when he will be available before we set a date to install it.
    • Teacher appreciation - XXXX :)
  •        Movie night - April 29 - Meet the Robinsons?

  • Budget - still a work in progress

March 2016 Meeting Minutes

3/8/2016

  • Call meeting to order
  • Approval of Feb. minutes
  • Treasurer report - Emily is still having trouble getting into our bank account, but we have had just a few little deductions and should have around $24,000.
  • Teacher report - Mrs. Garner - What are we doing with Mr. Shewans jokes?? Stefanya says she will volunteer to take this project over!!  Everyone knows that something is in the works, but we need to communicate what is going on to all the teachers.  The assembly will be May 27.  K would like to go on a field trip to the Grand Rapids children’s museum.  Mrs. Garner has applied for a grant from the museum, if it is not received, they will be asking for assistance for the the two K classes.  Just like last years field trip.
  • Principal report - Ms. Kent - Academics report - we kept the small kids in for morning recess because of the ice and slush.  It was a big slushy mess at the soccer field today too.  Lunch recess we did not go out.  The drainage is working well, though! We had the science fair, and had a lot of great feedback from that!  We had 4 snowdays in February, we are as of now, making up 3.  We have mostly finished our winter assessments.  K-2 are taking a state test this year, similar to the Mstep.  We are piloting that this year.  We are getting 60 more chromebooks, this should help with 3-4 getting testing done a little sooner.  The ipads were reinstated, we are getting 19 back.  We are asking for a cart for the ipads.  Book fair is coming up.  We had a lockdown drill at lunch and it went super well!  The whole district sets a day for lockdown drills.  We have some Ferris people coming in to do some reading, lots of different groups coming in for reading month!  March 29 is calling all dads.
  • Old Business:
    • Charging cart - we approved this last meeting
    • Rink Party - success
    • Science Fair - success
    • Assemblies - science/magic assembly was well received!!!
    • March reading month

  • New Business:
    • Girls on the run - we tabled the vote for this from the last meeting - this is a unique situation - there has been a miscommunication where it has been communicated that PTO will cover the cost of the shoes.  There have been 31 girls signed up, and the cost would be $15 per pair.   There is also a $45 registration fee.  7 for No and 6 for Yes.    Is there a way that some of us could individually sponsor some of the students to make sure no one who has signed up will miss out?  We need to say something to explain this situation.  Maybe we can send a form out to the parents of those who have signed up that says PTO will not cover the costs, however, there are some parents/businesses who will sponsor those who are in need of shoes to participate for this program.  Can we state that you do not have to have the specific pair of shoes to participate?
    • Box tops - Deater is not here - it looks like we are receiving a check for $1000+
    • Labels - the program is ending slowly, We can submit for a period of time, and we do have a point balance that we can redeem.
    • Next book fair- next week- the sign up sheet is going around, the set up will be Friday at 6pm.  It will be in the library until Wednesday, then to the gym for the nacho night, then back to the library for the rest of the week.  Heather has everything arranged for the nachos.
    • Fill-a-tub - We were approached to fill a tote for each teachers room with snowgear, boots, gloves, etc.  Should we separate them by size?  To be brought in book fair night, we will have the tubs set up in the hallway.  Reading night is also going on that night.
    • Teacher conferences - this is March 17.  Make something light, Jenn Ames can order it if someone else can bring it.  Appetizers would be best.  Stephanie will take care of it!!
    • Assemblies - We have one left, Reading Month Assembly March 15 at 8:30am
    • Teacher Appreciation - XX
    • Playground - can Curtis help with this project?  Let’s do this!!  We do also have a canopy catalog to look at if we are still interested in that.  The company is out of Holland, WHPorter pavilion.  Something similar to the pavilion near the tennis court.  A water fountain too?
    • Mr. Shewan - Stefanya will take this over - the joke book - surprise assembly
    • Signs for the sidewalk - we have looked into this.  Stefanya’s husband will volunteer to make them is reimbursed for supplies!!  What kind of options do we have?
    • Health & Fitness Day - somewhere around the 19th
    • Family Picnic - May 20th - probably 11:30ish
  • Budget - still a work in process

  • Call Meeting to order.
  • Approval of January Minutes - Cooley
  • Treasure Report- very little went out last month- paid for standing desks and stools. Paid deposit for science assembly.
Teacher Report
  • Mrs. McKenna/Zocco-She is very impressed with our PTO at Riverview! Kids are excited for the valentine dance party.  Thank you for the bunsen burners.  Science fair (Feb 23rd) participation seems to be down this year as it is optional.  Consider sending a reminder to parents.  Girls Engineering is also happening on Feb 22nd-this is a program through ferris which attempts to get girls excited about engineering.  Teachers are looking for options for the boys. Calling all moms is Feb 22nd as well as the star lab. 2nd-4th grade will be attending the Middle Schools’ “The Lion King” Feb 18th at the High School.
  • Principal Report-N/A
Old Business:
  • Our purchases are in.
  • Standing Desks-Going well.
  • Hokie Stools
  • Scholastic dollars -books for rooms, rugs, and other supplies have arrived.
  • Cran Hill Field Trip-the weather and snow days have put a damper on this event.  on hold for now.
New Business:
  • What to spend the Walk-Money on?
  • Do we want to spend money on a charging cart?  Vote in favor of purchasing 1 charging cart.
  • We do have end of year field trips coming up, need to save about $5,000 for that.
  • Riverview is receiving $20,000 in technology early next school year, so it is advised to wait on spending any money on technology this year.
  • We will be purchasing about $3,000 is playground equipment for the upper elementary area.
  • Consider a canopy for shade on the playground-might have to save for a couple years.
  • New teacher signs for the sidewalk are in the works.
Roller rink rental:
  • Amber and Jamie will be representing PTO. We will raffle off roller rink passes that were left over from the walk a thon.
  • Extra party - Feb 12th from 12:30-2:30.  PTO has 3 busses, they will take a group to the roller rink and then come back for more.
  • Any cute ideas? Play games like they do on skates.
  • Should we do cake? Cookies have been ordered and PTO will take care of water.
  • Need to clarify a few things with teachers and parents:
  • No outside food will be accepted
  • No siblings
  • We do not recommend taking children home from the skating rink.
Science Fair:
  • Feb 23rd 5:30-7:00, do we reserve tables?  Science committee has taken care of that.  Might want more for 4th grade “State Project”
  • Committed to the money to help.  Angie Mishler is coordinating and PTO will reimburse.
Assemblies:
  • Put the down payment on assembly $50
  • Science or Magic-Keith Fields will be entertaining the school on Feb 29th from 1:30-2:15.  Total is $550
  • Reading Month-Do we want an author or a Reading Assembly?  or both?  Maybe authors can go into individual classroom and we can do an assembly for the entire school.
  • Star Lab will be at the school on Feb 22nd for classrooms to visit.
Box tops:
  • Jennifer Deater-All updated and ready to go.  Next box top submission date is March 1-please get in all box tops by then.  We will continue to collect all year.
Labels:
  • Becky-New news from LFE-This program will be dissolving.  Campbell's is pulling out of the program but it sounds like we can submit anything with a LFE logo until Aug 17.  We currently have about 25,000 points.
Next Book Fair:
  • March 14-March 18th-sign up to help at next month's meeting or let us know your availability.  Cooley can work Friday.  Parks can work Monday.
  • Teachers will submit wish list.
  • Groovy 70’s theme
  • Wed March 16 Family Dinner
  • Keep Nachos -Heather and Megan are taking care of this.
Girls on the run-a program for 3rd and 4th graders.
  • Will we provide the $15 shoes for the girls who can’t afford them?
  • City offers scholarship programs for the entry fee, but not the shoes.  PTO likes this idea, but will we be asked to help for soccer, basketball, etc? Let's get an idea of how many kids from Renee before approving at the next meeting.
Teacher Appreciation
  • We have idea, kept off the minutes for spying eyes.
Mr. Shewan:
  • Set assembly date (I was thinking… just do one at the end-March 27th)
  • Get notice out to the classes about their “special” tasks.  Do the teachers want to “adopt” a month/week and do something special. Then jokes if they would like for the end assembly?
Movie night:
  • We would like to fit one more in at least.  Ask Renee for dates in March (Feb has a lot going on).
Fill a tub:
  • Teachers expressed concern about the lack of gym shoes/outdoor clothing.  We thought of doing a “Fill the tub” at the Book Fair family night.  If your family brings in an item (boots, shoes, gloves, snowpants), you get a raffle ticket for a $25 scholastic gift card.  Teachers could keep the tubs in their room.
Working on developing a budget
Still in the process

Our Mission is to instill in all Riverview students a healthy self-image, a love of learning and the desire to achieve their best in tomorrow’s world.

October 2015 Meeting Minutes

10/8/2015

  • Call meeting to order - introductions
  • Approval of September minutes
Treasurer report
Anything on the report with a star is split with Brookside, lots of little things from Walkathon and Gaga Pit, etc.

Teacher report -
Mrs. Zocco - We have had a lot of great safety drills.  Walkathon was a huge motivator for the kids, and everyone was really excited to monitor it in the classrooms.  Some of the testing going on has been going really well.

Principal report
Ms. Kent - Academic report - Drills have been going really well.  Lockdown drills have gone over well.  We had police on site for this.  Everything went silent right away.  We had a fire drill today, overseen by Mrs. Fox, which also went well.  Everyone is getting really riled up to throw water balloons!!! There is a public safety team that is doing a mock child abduction that will be simulated at Brookside, the child being “abducted” is an officer's child.  They have a specific procedure they will be following.  In this situation, we would remain in lockdown but continue with classes. This is a great practice for them.

Old Business
-Walkathon - was a GREAT success!!  Friday is the last day for collections.  We can change the time for deadlines.  Our deadline will be midnight.  $100 buckets will be filled on Tuesday.  It was too disruptive to do this during the day.  We can change this for next year.  Everything will be done before the assembly on Thursday.

-We are in the middle of Tshirt sales, but it is going over well.  We are selling the Tshirts at cost, meaning we are NOT making a profit. Deadline for orders is Friday.

-Ice machine - thank you Parks family

-Gaga pit - also a HUGE success

-Kindergarten went on a field trip to the apple orchards this week.  We did cover the expenses for this.

-Homecoming - we bought a bubble machine for the float that we will use in the future.  Elsa was fabulous.

New Business
-We are going to do a survey this year, it is already started.  We will NOT consider changing companies, and we will do the walkathon again next year.  Otherwise, we are looking for feedback about PTO and walkathon and what parents would prefer us to do with the money.

-Incentive run down - the lanyards are pretty much all handed out.  We will have only one prize per student no matter how many times their names are drawn.  We are having a little blip with Great Wolf, they did not donate so we will have to pay out of pocket for this.  We are also having some push back from the roller rink, so we are going to approach them with another way.  We can rent it for a specific day perhaps.  Amber Davis is going to look into this for us and find out all the details.

-Halloween gift - we have given glow sticks or other things in the past. Do we want to do this this year?  Let’s not, we are doing a lot of other small things, so let’s pass on this.

-Mobi Max - there is a lot of interest in this, so we will do this for $699 for the whole school.

-Movie night - the licensing company contacted us.  We had a great turnout last year, let’s do it again this year.  We are looking at Fri. Nov 6 and we want to show the movie “Inside Out”  We do have concessions for this event as well.  Angie Mishler can send an evite notice out to honor students, which was a great help with concessions.

-Wreath sales - can someone please take this over?  Stefanya will take this over.  Megan has done this in the past and can help out. We are NOT doing this as a money maker.  We do this because of the demand.  We charge just enough to cover the cost.

-Parent Teacher Conferences - We serve the teachers dinner. Jennifer Ames is going to take this over.  We have 13 teachers, maybe plan to serve 15.  We could also do a desert sign up.

-Box Tops - does anyone want to take over Box Tops from Amber?  It requires collecting them, cutting them, sending them in, etc.  Amber can still help.  We make about $2000-$3000 a year off of this.  We do have a deadline at the end of the month which will result in a check in December.  Amber Davis and Tanya Parks will help with this.

-Holiday Shop - We did not like the Reindeer Lane company last year.  Tanya has a contact with a company that does this.  We may need to order stuff through catalogs, but we would need to move now if we went that route.  The Dollar Store may be a great way to go.  That way we can make everything just a dollar or two at most.  We did check to make sure that we can resell these items last year.  Emily has room to store.  We can contact the dollar store people to see what kind of inventory they have and what our options are.

-Book Fair - Our theme is Monsters.  This is our next big thing.  It will be Oct. 28, Wednesday night, from 5-7pm.  We need help serving the ice cream, tidying the book fair, selling books.  We also have sign up times during the week.  Amber will send out a link to show those who sign up how to use the register.  It is super easy to use. If you volunteer you get 10% off.  This is our smaller one, the spring one is bigger.  We do get scholastic dollars that we get to choose items from a catalog with.  We used these funds to buy lots of things for the classrooms.  We spent $7700 in books and classroom stuff last year.  We are considering setting up a table at our Book Fair night for everyone to pick up their loot from the Walk-a-thon and the Tshirt sale.  We will still send items out to those who can’t attend.  Can we do a wish list for book fair items too?  We can send this home with the book fair letter, or have the teachers have the wish list for the students as they tour.

-Match Day - Tuesday, November 10 from 11-6.  We bring in all of our money and since we are non-profit, you get a certain % of money back.  Someone has to sit at the table all day and we have to decorate our table - the theme is Black & Silver.  All of the non profits in the county are there and donations are made.

-Budget - We have started working on this.  What we have so far is on the google drive, so look at it and see what you think.  We are trying to develop it, but as of now, we don’t have a guideline.  We want to spend the money.  We want the kids that are in the building this year need to reap the rewards of what we have made from the walkathon.  We spent around 85% last year, and we need to spend it on the kids.

-Thank yous to the corporate sponsors.  Let’s have the kids make some!

-Mr. Shewan - our custodian will be leaving after this year.  We missed custodial appreciation day!!  We want to do some fun things to show our appreciation for everything he does in the school.  We could make a movie.  We could give each classroom a month.  Maybe a flash mob, or the marching band at the end of the year.

September 2015 Meeting Minutes

Treasurer report
We are starting walk-a-thon expenses which are seen on the report.  We made the signs for the hallways, which was another expense. Shoparoo made around $184.

Principal report
Ms Kent - Academics report - We are rockin so far.  The kids are doing fantastic so far this week.  We are a very positive, high energy school. The first round of assessments are starting now and will go through the next few weeks.  We are acquiring baseline data on the students to see where our growth is throughout the year.  This information is passed onto the state.  Any questions about skyward can be directed through the tech department. We have an amazing group of teachers!!  There is a special ed millage coming up in November that is coming up.  It is a MOISD thing.  Keep it in mind!! It helps us alot.

Teacher report
Deater - some teachers had asked about Moby Max.  We believe we did subscribe to that, so it should be available to them. The mats for the cricket in the work room are not sticky anymore, Amber will take care of this.

New Business
Our “one ask” major fundraiser is the Walk-a-thon.  This is our one and only fundraiser for the year.  Last year we raised over $16,000.  We are hoping to go above and beyond again this year.  Walk-a-thon website: thegetmovincrew.com.  Last year 70% of our pledges came from a mobile device, and the website is now mobile device friendly.  So the look of the webpage has changed a little, but it works the same as before.  Teachers can pull their class page up in the classroom. It is more user friendly, but if anyone has any problems, pass them on to us!

Corporate sponsors last year raised $3300 between both schools, we already have over $2000 this year!  Corporate sponsors will receive recognition at the event. Alot of the money from this event funds field trips.  Letters about the walk-a-thon will go home tomorrow.  We have new incentives this year. Kick off assembly is Sept. 10 at 8:30 am.  Megan is going to be our Pete the Cat for our assembly.  The end assembly/closing ceremony will be Oct. 15 at 2 pm.  There will be a small event for those who cannot participate on the day of the event that will take place at the end assembly.  We would be more than happy to have any help with this event.  Direct any questions you hear to us!

We are getting a gaga pit!  Yay!  We bought a 30 ft. pit, with bumpers and 3 balls.  We are doing this for the upper el kids. We are still waiting on the other new structure going in on the playground.

Field Trips - there is a new form for the teachers to fill out for us, so we can get a better grip on our budget.  We are hoping to continue paying for all field trips.

We have been asked if we would be willing to purchase an ice machine to help out the front desk.  Kim found one from Sam’s Club for $99. We will approve one if not donated.

Bylaws - we are going to readdress this after the walk-a-thon

Box tops/Labels - Amber - Bonus box tops are going again.  Amber will check to make sure each classroom has a collection box. Our goal is around 105 boxtops per student.  We have another idea for boxtop fundraisers - the basketball game competition through Ferris.  They had all or nothing competition with another district close by.  Boxtop deadlines are every few months, but Amber handles all of that.  Becky takes care of the Labels for Education which is a similar format to the boxtops.  For Labels, we can order out of a catalog or get a visa gift card.  Last year, we used that money to pay for the teachers lounge.  We have discussed an apparel event for this year’s teacher appreciation.  Emily has a connection with an Under Armour rep.  Our first book fair will be in Oct.  Mrs. Scheible had an idea about sending information out to parents about a cardinal shirt swap at the same time as the family dinner night/bookfair.

Homecoming - Will be the same day as the walk-a-thon.  We put our float together Thursday night before the event, also cut fruit for the walk-a-thon.  We do not know the theme yet for homecoming.

We will continue to do the wreaths, this is NOT a fundraiser!!  We do this because we have so many people asking us for them.  We sell them at cost, and do NOT make money on this event.

Let’s continue on our path, keep it positive!!
To instill in all Riverview students a healthy self-image, a love of learning and the desire to achieve their best in tomorrow's world.
